Give architects export tools
Twenty years ago AFEX was set the objective to export French architecture. Today, two hundred design professionals are members of the association, including more than a hundred architectural practices. Among them figure the big names in architecture but also experienced exporters and practices in very specialized fields. Members also include young architects that want to learn from their elders.
In a globalized world, for many practices export is not a remote activity but a daily reality. Tempted to export, more and more architects frequently contact AFEX. However, it should be noted that AFEX does not proselytise ; export is risky. Practice in France should be robust with a sound portfolio before embarking upon markets abroad. Indeed, it requires a long-term approach ; it often takes several years to bear fruit.
That said, over time AFEX has developed the means to assist architects to better organize and promote the quality of their work in France and overseas.
This book is the proof. Through fifty exemplary projects shortlisted in the AFEX Grand Prix of French Architecture Throughout the World, it provides an overview of our overseas production during the last ten years.
It is also a tribute to the two decades of work by AFEX in the service of architects and architecture that has rendered the planet closer, more accessible and maybe, better off.
